Dunlop Tyre Europe partners with TyreSafe for greater tyre safety on UK roads
Dunlop Tyre Europe GmbH has today announced a new partnership with TyreSafe, a leading tyre safety charity in the UK. By supporting the charity as one of just 12 Charity Incorporated Organisations (CIO) – the highest level of membership – Dunlop Tyre Europe will help shape the strategic direction of tyre safety in the UK, alongside other influential tyre manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and dealers. The partnership incorporates DUNLOP and FALKEN brands.
Founded in 2006, TyreSafe is the only organisation committed to reducing tyre-related incidents on British roads for all road users. Dunlop Tyre Europe will support the charity’s mission to empower road users with tyre safety knowledge to reduce incidents relating to illegal and poorly maintained tyres. Driver education and policy development are two key pillars of this commitment.
The partnership creates new opportunities for DUNLOP and FALKEN to collaborate with TyreSafe on a range of high-profile initiatives throughout the year, including Tyre Safety Month in October. Dunlop Tyre Europe also joins the TyreSafe Steering Committee, with direct input to the charity’s governance and future strategy, and will contribute new research and data to support the charity’s ongoing campaign for safer roads.
Tyre and road safety has taken on greater prominence in 2026 following the publication of the UK Government’s National Road Safety Strategy in January this year. The first strategy of its kind for 15 years, it aims to reduce road deaths and serious injuries in the UK by 65 per cent by 2035.
Data from TyreSafe shows that over six million tyres in the UK have illegal tread each year, which could lead to a fine of up to £2,500 per tyre and 3 penalty points. Over two million MOT failures occur each year due to tyre defects. Meanwhile, one in four drivers (26.4 per cent) have never checked their tyres’ tread, rising to one in three for younger drivers (33.5 per cent of 18-to-25 year-olds).
Markus Bögner, president and managing director of Dunlop Tyre Europe, comments: “TyreSafe’s vital efforts help to keep tyre safety front of mind for drivers across the UK, and ensure the subject remains firmly on the agenda for policymakers. We are proud to contribute our insights and industry experience to help advance the tyre safety conversation in the UK, and we support practical action that can make roads safer for everyone.”
Stuart Lovatt, TyreSafe chair, said, “We are absolutely delighted to welcome both DUNLOP and FALKEN to TyreSafe through our partnership with Dunlop Tyre Europe. Its decision to join TyreSafe demonstrates a clear commitment to road safety. This is significant not only for TyreSafe, but for road users. The more leading manufacturers we can bring together around a shared vision for safer roads, the greater our ability to influence behaviour, share expertise, generate evidence and deliver life-saving safety messages.
“The publication of the Government's new national Road Safety Strategy has created a renewed focus on casualty reduction across the UK. Achieving those ambitious goals will require genuine collaboration between industry, government, enforcement and road safety organisations, and we are excited to have DUNLOP and FALKEN joining us on that journey.”
