ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers: DUNLOP Motorsport ends the weekend without a race result

The first race of the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers was marked by tragic events. A serious accident shortly after the start of the race on Saturday evening, in which a driver lost his life, has shaken the entire paddock. During these difficult hours, the entire DUNLOP team extends its deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased and to the affected team. The race was stopped as a result of the incident and was not resumed.

The second race on Sunday took place despite the tragic circumstances. Dorian Boccolacci and Alessio Picariello shared the cockpit of the black-and-yellow DUNLOP Porsche bearing start number 17. The duo secured a strong second place in qualifying on a drying track. However, because the final starting grid was not determined until the subsequent Top Qualifying session, this result had no bearing on their actual starting position.

Picariello took on the subsequent individual time trial under difficult conditions and as rain began to fall: This led to the Belgian losing control of the #17 DUNLOP Porsche as early as the warm-up lap and making contact with the guardrail on the right side. Although he managed to bring the car back to the pits, the damage was too extensive to allow him to participate in the race.

Nevertheless, DUNLOP Motorsport was able to gain valuable insights for future races, particularly regarding SENSING CORE TECHNOLOGY from Sumitomo Rubber Industries. The system uses the tire itself as a sensor and provides real-time data on wear, pressure, wheel load, and track conditions - without any additional hardware. The technology enhances safety and efficiency, detects critical conditions such as loose wheel nuts early on, and enables strategic advantages, such as optimized pit stops. Successfully tested under extreme conditions at the Nürburgring, SENSING CORE shows great potential for motorsport and production applications.

The #632 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup from the BLACK FALCON Team FANATEC, driven by Jimmy Broadbent, Steve Brown, Misha Charoudin, and Manuel Metzger - which also runs on DUNLOP slick tires - finished 22nd overall and secured the class victory in the AT2 category for alternative fuels.
